Nobuo Hashiba “Genka (Phantom Flowers)” Exhibition

“Gold leaf is applied to flower-shaped reliefs, and darkness (black) is painted over it. At a certain stage, the gold as a material transforms into light. By coexisting with darkness, it ‘becomes light.’” — Nobuo Hashiba

Following the “Fuji Exhibition” held in 2020, this presentation focuses on the theme of flowers.
We invite you into the world of Genka, where form is transformed into light.

Born in Tokyo in 1950. Lived in Paris from 1978 to 1979.
From 1979, he held numerous exhibitions at institutions such as the École des Beaux-Arts, Atelier Yankel, and Le Salon (Paris).

Hashiba creates works that incorporate contemporary art into shitsurai—the traditional Japanese aesthetic of elegantly arranging seasonal and ceremonial decorations within interior spaces. His serene and modern works, created using materials such as gold powder, gold leaf, platinum, and iron on canvas or panel, harmonize with refined Japanese interiors.
