EXHIBITION
Monthly Exhibition at the show case by Kaigado Gallery.
Ryosuke Aruse -Love,contradiction-
The defining characteristic of Aruse’s work lies in the fusion of seemingly opposing elements: a gaze that closely observes “objects” and everyday phenomena—grounded in reality—combined with elements of fantasy; lines and colors rendered with a calm awareness of the finished composition alongside those left to chance. These contrasting aspects are uniquely interwoven through the artist’s perspective, resulting in works that achieve a delicate and compelling balance.
The works, born from a dynamic interplay between a composed, almost detached view of completion and an intuitive, spontaneous approach to line and color, draw viewers into a distinctive and immersive world. Through his singular observational lens, the works simultaneously express a pure appreciation for the everyday while also revealing a sense of humor and subtle irony toward the society he observes.
This exhibition features several series: the “Patchwork Series,” three-dimensional collage works composed of small assembled pieces; the “Vessel Series,” depicting a variety of patterns and animals within jar-like forms; the “Ainu Series,” inspired by traditional Ainu motifs; and the “Collection Series,” portraying diverse subjects such as cats and gemstones.
By presenting a group of works that may at first appear unrelated, the exhibition seeks to illuminate the artist’s consistent perspective toward objects and phenomena, while casting new light on each individual piece.
Everyday motifs serve as points of connection between the artwork and the viewer. When these familiar elements are reinterpreted through the artist’s unique perspective, the works stimulate our imagination, offer new ways of seeing, and become guides for deeper reflection.
