Born in 1976 in Tokyo.
In 1995, studied at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris.
From his late teens, he assisted in the studio of his father, the painter Toshimitsu Imai, where he learned painting techniques and developed his sense of form.
Began producing his own work in earnest in 2008.
