Shirō Kasamatsu Exhibition

1898–1991, born in Tokyo

A printmaker active from the Taishō to Shōwa periods. At the age of 14, he studied under Kiyokata Kaburaki and was selected for the Bunten and Teiten exhibitions. From 1919, he produced shin-hanga works under Shōzaburō Watanabe, later shifting his style and working with Unsōdō. He was also a member of the Seikin-kai alongside Itō Shinsui and Shūhō Yamakawa. In his later years, he devoted himself to creating works through self-drawing and self-carving. In 1937, he received the Minister’s Award at the 1st Marine Art Exhibition.
