Yamamoto has established a unique world of copperplate printmaking characterized by urbane, light, and witty color. Her practice extends beyond genres, integrating music and poetry into her visual work through diverse collaborations. She has designed book covers and illustrations for numerous publications, and her exhibition Yoko Yamamoto’s Art Amusement Park toured ten museums nationwide. In 2007, she created stained glass works for the Railway Museum, and in 2008, stained glass and mosaic murals for “Shinjuku-sanchome” Station on the Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line.
In 2009, a solo exhibition composed of 24 hanging scrolls and five small prints from Yoko Yamamoto no Himegimi-tachi himegimi@heian (Kodansha) was held at Agenzia04 Gallery in Bologna, Italy. From 2009 to 2010, Girls in Wonderland: Yoko Yamamoto’s Wonderland was exhibited at the Fukuyama Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, Saitama, attracting considerable attention.
Since 2005, she has also engaged in “hospital art” as one of her ongoing life works. Harnessing the healing power of art, she creates murals in medical settings to foster a sense of calm for patients as well as doctors and nurses, expanding the scope of her practice into healthcare environments.
