東アフリカ・タンザニアにおいて描かれているティンガティンガ。ティンガティンガとは1960年代にタンザニア・ダルエスサラームにおいて、エドワード・サイディ・ティンガティンガ氏が生み出したポップアートの手法です。黒、白、赤、青、黄色、緑の6色のエナメルペンキを使用し、主に動物や植物、村の風景など身近なモチーフを描いています。

ティンガティンガのアーティスト達は一つの村で共に生活をしながら、村内の工房にて共に制作活動を行っており、現在は総勢約80名ほどがティンガティンガ協会に所属するアーティストとして従事しています。

この度、一般社団法人アフリカンアート支援機構の代表で、長期にわたりティンガティンガを支援している曽根勝貴氏とご縁を頂き、ティンガティンガの世界や彼らを取り巻く現状についてお伺いし、弊社も応援させて頂きたいという意図で今回の企画となりました。

一般社団法人アフリカンアート支援機構では、定期的にタンザニアに訪問し、彼らの作品を適正な価格で継続的に購入し、日本においてイベントやオンライン等で販売。その売上金をまた作品購入に充てる、という方法で、能動的で持続可能な自立の支援を行っています。また彼らの制作環境の改善や、パネルの寄贈による作品の品質向上等も行っています。

今回こちらで販売した作品の売上金額の75%は一般社団法人アフリカンアート支援機構を通じてティンガティンガ協会に還元されます。この機会に、色彩豊かでアフリカのエネルギー溢れる作品達をお楽しみ頂き、ぜひご支援を頂きたく宜しくお願い致します。

Charity Event for Tingatinga Artists

Tingatinga is a pop art technique painted in Tanzania, East Africa, created by Edward Saidi Tingatinga in the 1960s. It utilizes six colors of enamel paint—black, white, red, blue, yellow, and green—to depict familiar motifs such as animals, plants, and village landscapes.

Tingatinga artists live together in a village in Tanzania and work collectively in a shared workshop. Currently, around 80 artists are actively creating as members of the Tingatinga Arts Cooperative Society.

We are pleased to have the opportunity to connect with Mr. Katsutaka Sone, the representative of the General Incorporated Association for Supporting African Art, who has been supporting Tinga Tinga for many years. Through this connection, we were able to learn more about the world of Tinga Tinga and the challenges surrounding its artists. With the desire to support their work, we have planned this exhibition.

Mr. Sone regularly visits Tanzania to purchase artworks at fair prices on a continuous basis. These artworks are then sold through events in Japan and online platforms, with the proceeds reinvested into purchasing more artworks. This sustainable and proactive approach helps support the artists’ independence.

Additionally, the association works on improving their working environment and enhancing the quality of their artworks by donating painting panels and other necessary materials.

For this initiative, 75% of the sales revenue from the artworks sold here will be returned to the Tinga Tinga Arts Cooperative Society through the association. We hope you will take this opportunity to enjoy these vibrant, energetic African artworks and extend your support. Thank you very much.
